Calgary Wedding Consignment Store Closed

The decision to shut down our wedding gown consignment shop, Wishahmon Glorious Gowns was a really tough one. Over the past three years, we helped a lot of brides find their wedding gowns at a fraction of retail price. (Last time I can use this "plug".)

We learned a lot about dress styles, body shapes, engagement stories, wedding plans, and in general about our brides. Some of our best memories include:

This One is a Keeper, I Think
One bride tried on a gown and stayed in it for three hours. She wasn't ready to make the decision that the gown was "the one" but also didn't want to take it off. Rather than selling it to her with high pressure sales tactics. I told her that she can keep it on and I will just go into the back room to do some paperwork. Just let me know when she has made a decision. No pressure. She ended up coming into the backroom and telling me she LOVES the gown.

Do You Cry Every Time?
One bride brought her huge entourage and tried on two gowns. When she put on the second one, everyone started to cry including me. The mother of the bride asked me if I cry every time I see a bride in a gown? I just said to her "Hey! No judgment. Please pass me a tissue."

FOCUS Mom
One bride had chosen the gown that she likes and wanted to come back to show her mom. The bride tried on the gown again and when she walked out the mom was suggesting other gowns she should try on. The bride was so disappointed. Not only did her mom not comment on her gown, her mom was now looking at other gowns. I said to the mother of the bride: "MOM, FOCUS, AND SIT DOWN."  The bride and her mother laughed and said I was so bossy, but in a good way.

Two Weeks Left
After a long day of appointments, I got a call and text from a bride wanting to come in to look at gowns because her wedding is in two weeks. I called her back and told her I just finished a full day of appointments and I am super tired. She can come to look at gowns but I will be pretty much useless. The bride said she will help herself and promise not to steal anything. She ended up coming and finding her gown that fit her perfectly. Thank goodness.

Can You Watch My Baby?
This bride found her gown but had to go to the bank to get money to pay for it. Because it is a hassle to bring her new born baby to the bank, she asked if I can watch her baby for her while she went to the bank. I said "uh, um, no?" The bride laughed at her request and asked me to come to the bank with her and to sit in the car with her baby. I said "uh, um, ok."

Thank you so much to all the brides that visited our little shop. It was an amazing experience and we will remember all the moments we had with you! Thank you for all the support! Cheers!

What's New at Wishahmon - September 2015

So, blogging in August was kind of a bust. I thought I could keep up with blogging but three projects ended up taking most of my time, energy, and head space. Here is what we have been working on:

Consignment Shop Closure
It was a great three years for our wedding consignment boutique, Wishahmon Glorious Gowns, but we will be officially closed by the end of September. We want to thank all of the consignors that bought their gowns to consign with us and all the brides that bought a gown with us. We are extremely happy and proud we were able to play matchmaker for many brides with their perfect gown.

Bridal Expo 2015
Our wedding planning business, Wishahmon Wedding Creations will be attending Bridal Expo 2015 on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the BMO Center Stampede Park from 10am-5pm. For all the brides that visit our booth, they will be given a card for $250 off any wedding planning service. If you book a consultation appointment with us the day of Bridal Expo, you will get $500 off any wedding planning service. Don't miss out!

Baby Is One Year Old
This has been the most difficult year of my life but I made it through with a happy and healthy baby! She will be turning one years old this month. There will be lots of cake to celebrate. Mostly for me. She can't eat cake...yet.

Totally Cool Wedding Ceremony Programs

Couples are foregoing wedding ceremony programs because they feel it is unnecessary, nobody really cares about it, and they are boring.

As a wedding planner, I try to explain to my clients that a wedding ceremony program gives guests an idea of what the ceremony rundown is like and it is also an introduction to the wedding party. You chose these people for a reason and wouldn't you like to share with your guests why they were chosen? Ceremony programs are a great way for the couple to share special stories, notes, and songs with their guests too. You can't say it all at your wedding, so write it down and let your guests read about on their own! It will give them something to do when they are sitting at their seat waiting for the ceremony to begin too!

As for the last reason why ceremony programs are overlooked, here are some examples of how ceremony programs don't have to be boring and actually can be quite cool.

Unique Wedding Card Boxes

At a recent wedding I overheard a wedding guest comment on my client's wedding card box. It was a birdcage. The guest thought it was a great idea and said she was going to steal it. I think she meant to steal the idea and not the birdcage. (I kept a close eye on her in any event.)

Wedding card boxes have come a long way and they do not need to be an actual "box." It just needs to be a vessel to hold the cards that guests bring for the newlywed couple. Here are some ideas of unconventional and unique wedding card boxes.

Lucky for you, most wedding guests come baring envelopes full of cash and checks rather than boxed gifts, so of course you want a cute card box to hold them all. Here are some unique card boxes that we just love. (Images via The Knot)

Essense Of Australia Spring 2016 Bridal Collection

The Essense of Australia Spring 2016 Bridal Collection is filled with gowns that will make you feel like the main character of your very own fairy tale story. Blush colors, delicate chiffon, and lace appliques! All perfect complements for a princess to meet her prince and to live happily ever after. (What can I say? I'm a hopeless romantic for fairy tales. You should have already known that though. "Wishahmon" like "wish upon a star.")

What's New at Wishahmon - August 2015

Last month went by way too fast. So fast that we forgot to do our What's New in July post. Sigh. Here is a recap of some of the exciting things that happened last month and what we have to look forward to this month!

Our guest blogger, Vincci tied the knot with b at Hotel Arts. #vplusbwedding was absolutely awesome and not just "very ok." (inside joke)

We Have New Lace Wedding Gowns
Brides requested lace gowns and we got more of them added to our wedding gown collection! #wedelivered

Milestone Birthday
I personally celebrated my first birthday as a #newmom to my 10 month old daughter. #wow

What's up with all the hashtags that don't go anywhere? We totally got hooked with hashtags from #vplusbwedding. Let's just say we are still hungover on hashtags.

Thanks to Ivy, we have reorganized ourselves and actually have a plan moving forward. We "vow" to keep up with these What's New at Wishahmon posts from here on out! Pinky swear.

Short Break From Blogging

Our guest blogger and client, Vincci married B last weekend at Hotel Arts. (#vplusbwedding) Once we get pictures from their photographer, TLaw Photography, we will definitely share them with our readers too. (The picture below was taking from with our cellphone.) To celebrate their wedding and a job well done by the Wishahmon team, we will be taking a break from blogging until August 5th, 2015. Hope everyone enjoys their summer!

Disclaimer: This break from blogging is in no way a result of exhaustion from Vincci's wedding!

Beautiful Sugar Flowers on Wedding Cakes

Many wedding cakes are decorated with fresh flowers but did you know that not all flowers are appropriate for cake decoration? Some flowers are naturally toxic for consumption while others are harmful because of pesticide use. Generally, any flower that is sold as an edible garnish is a perfect choice for fresh flowers on a cake. Flowers that are edible include: roses, gardenias, pansies, violets, and dandelions.

If you don't want the headache of finding edible flowers or the heart break of one of your guests getting sick, an alternative to fresh flowers are sugar flowers. This is a more expensive route to go but sugar flowers have come a long way. They look practically real now. Check out the stunning cakes by Cotton & Crumbs.
