What's New at Wishahmon - July 2014

Not a whole lot to share this month as we have been working on weddings this season and clients with weddings in 2015. Trying to stay positive (and not think we did nothing this month) here is what we came up with to share. Both are exciting news for us!

Rebuild YYC Greeting Cards Available at the Calgary Zoo!
Late last year we found local professional vendors to help us create greeting cards to raise funds for the Calgary Zoo to rebuild habitats damaged from the June of 2013 flood. We raised $3000 last year through booths at farmer's markets and craft fairs. Starting this month, the greeting cards will be sold at the Calgary Zoo gift shop. If you visit the Calgary Zoo, make sure you check out the cards and support the Calgary Zoo further!

Rebuild YYC Zoo Fundraiser

The flood in June, 2013 was devastating for all including myself. Born and raised in Calgary, I was in tears when I saw familar places I frequent being underwater. As a wedding planner with no upper body strength, and really weak ankles (broke both feet in the same year, separate times) I felt absolutely helpless. At the time, the only thing I thought I could help with is to put my name out there to brides needing help to relocate their weddings.

Five months later now, I still want to help out. Although the flood is over, there are still lots of work ahead. Reading news of Calgary Zoo animals slowly returning home, it gave me an idea to fundraise for the Calgary Zoo to help rebuild their habitats. People can ask for help but animals can't.

With the help of (some new and old) friends and some wonderful sponsors, we have created a pack of six greeting cards, featuring a professional photo of a different zoo animal. These cards will be sold for $20 for a pack of 6 online at: www.rebuildyyczoo.com and at the following locations:

November 9/10 (Sat/Sun) Calgary Farmers Market
November 23/24 (Sat/Sun, 10-5pm) Symons Valley Ranch
November 28 (Thurs 10-2pm) Nexen Christmas Market
December 6, (Fri 7-10pm) Hillhurst Sunnyside Holiday Gift Market
December 6,7,8 (Fri 4-9pm, Sat/Sun 10-6pm) Market Collective, Historic King Edward School
December 14 (Sat 10-2pm) Marda Loop Craft Show & Home Expo

Please join me and our wonderful sponsors in supporting our fundraising intiative to raise $10,000 for the Calgary Zoo. All proceeds will be donated to the Calgary Zoo. Please also help spread the word on this initiative through social media and sharing our website:  www.rebuildyyczoo.com!

Here is a picture of the greeting cards (envelopes are included but not in the picture):

This project couldn't have happened without the support of our sponsors. Special thanks to:

Jeff Cruz and Dave Law for their wonderful professional pictures;
Vistek for helping our photographers with equipment to take their pictures;
Eva Wan for helping us with the design of the cards and website;
Carbon Copy Digital for printing the entire first run of cards;
Calgary Farmers Market, Symons Valley Ranch, Nexen, Hillhurst Sunnyside Holiday Gift Market, Market Collective, and the Marda Loop Craft Show & Home Expo for sponsoring us at their venue.

Calgary Zoo

Yesterday I went for my second photography outing at the Calgary Zoo in keeping with my "New Years resolution." I haven't been to the zoo in ages! (Not going to specifically say how many number of years!) I thought the Calgary Zoo would be a good place to shoot some "action" shots of animals. However, what I forgot was how inactive these animals are. Most of them were either sleeping or had their backsides to me. Taking pictures at the zoo made me realize that I need a new camera lens, maybe one with more "zoom." I think the next thing I need to learn is the proper name for these lens. Here are some of my pictures!
