Bohemian Wedding Styled Photo Shoot

Guest Blogger: Erika Vincent

The bohemian wedding look is becoming a popular trend with Calgary brides. After all we live in a great place for rustic and natural settings that lend themselves so well to this style of wedding. Living on an acreage just west of the city myself, is what inspired this styled bohemian photo shoot. If you and your fiancĂ© are considering a boho theme for your nuptials here are some ideas of how to incorporate peace and love into the style of the big day!

Wedding Gown
Of course one of the most important aspects of any wedding is the bride's gown. The gown is always a focal point and can really help to set the tone, theme and style of the wedding day. Nowadays there are so many options for bridal gowns that lend themselves perfectly to the casual, romantic and soft feel of the bohemian trend. Chiffon, silk, lace and tulle can all make excellent fabric options for your hippy-chic look. Not only are they lovely but they are also light, flowing, and comfortable. It is perfect for our warm summer weather. Embellishments, such as the flowers on our shoot's bride Susan's wedding gown, instantly add to the natural and retro vibe of the style. Our featured gown is by Ruby Woo and is available through Wishahmon - Glorious Gowns. This truly beautiful dress is a perfect blend of flowing chiffon, curve hugging tailoring, and whimsical embellishments. This Ruby Woo design also features the very modern and current illusion back making it an even greater mix of modern and retro; truly lending itself to the "vibe" of the big day!

Wedding Party
One of the great things about having a boho theme at your wedding is that a lot of conventional thinking can be tossed out the window. Grooms can keep things casual in anything from jeans to the linen paints and shirt that we see on our model Curt. Our bridesmaid Francine is wearing an off the rack dress that keeps with the light flowing feel of the wedding dress. The colour of the dress incorporates the current pastel wedding trend; it's the perfect mix of modern trend meets hippy throwback.

Hair
There are so many options for hair styling when it comes to the boho theme. A bride can chose beachy-waves, braids, or casual and romantic buns. For our shoot's bride and bridesmaid Erika from Perfection Hair and Makeup by Erika decided to showcase both soft, cascading curls and a fun undo. Both incorporate flowers into the look. The use of a stunning floral headpiece, crafted by Pretty Petals Floral Design, truly adds a very special and memorable touch to the hair style. There are so many fun ways to play with the theme, and flowers in the hair for both the bride and bridal party are a must!

Makeup
Bold and bright or light and romantic, either can make a great option for makeup on your boho wedding day. For our photo shoot our bride Susan's look is a mix of both. The eye is kept softer with a highly blended smokey eye incorporating just a hint of purple for colour. The lip, on the other hand, is a bold pink that matches the weddings flowers perfectly and keeps the look fun and whimsical just like the theme. Our bridesmaid's makeup look is softer and incorporates more of the pastel pallet. Natural, fresh and glowing was the inspiration for this look created by Perfection Hair and Makeup by Erika

Decor
gorgeous sunny day, a beautiful country setting and a casual but stylish table make up the decor for our shoot. A mix of bright and pastel colours make up our pallet. Florals by Pretty Petals Floral Design are a stunning focal point for our nature inspired table setting. The centrepiece is a vintage lamp dripping with flowers. It may have been an inexpensive find but it created a great impact. And we were sure to add some fun touches such as crystal encrusted peace signs on the ribbon of each chair. We also had a genuine 1970's, lime green VW van to pose with. What better transportation could there be for a hippy bride and groom? With a bohemian theme there are so many options for keeping things elegant while still incorporating whimsical, memorable and unique touches in order to personalize your day and make it truly your own.
