Hello Jello...At Your Wedding

Growing up with my childhood friend, she always made me jello when I went to her house. It wasn't just jello in a cup. She would make different flavors layered on top of each other and then cut into cubes. I was totally impressed back then with her "cooking" skills and loved going to her house in anticipation of these. (The blog title is also dedicated to her as she would always call, email, or ICQ me starting with Hello Jello!)

Back to weddings - Jello is making a comeback and has become more sophisticated. They are now being cut up into different shapes, exotic fruits are incorporated, and even alcohol is included in the recipes! Jelly Shot Test Kitchen has a variety of recipes if you want to try it out for yourself. (I hope my friend reads this blog and starts experimenting with jello again!!)

Jessica Biel's Pink Wedding Gown

Two things are official. Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake tied the knot and pink wedding gowns are growing trend! In addition to Jessica, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon, and Gwen Stefani also walked down the aisle in a pink wedding gown. Pink being my favorite color, I totally support this trend! You can have an all pink gown, lighter blush gown, or just the ends of your gown pink. Swoon!

DIY Wedding Ideas with Wallpaper!!

Wallpaper is not what it was before. I remember ripping off the horrible stuff when I got the ok to decorate my own room. It was a lot of work. For about 15 years I didn't think twice about wallpaper again. Then, all of a sudden, wallpaper was IN. It was featured in all of my home decor magazines, usually as an accent wall. Loving this look, I planned my new home with wallpaper in mind. I was determined to create an accent wall in my living room. And then, I realized the price of wallpaper had gone up and it was no longer the 1980's (or the prices in the 80's to be more accurate.) Totally bummed, I put this decor idea out of my mind.
Then suddenly one day, I learned from Martha (Stewart) that you can decorate your wedding with wallpaper. In a value sense - the price of wallpaper is now a great deal considering how much you get and how expensive wedding "stuff" is. In a creative sense - wait, what? wallpaper? genius idea!!

Here are some ideas that Martha had on DIY wedding projects using wallpaper! I am totally stoked and can't wait to find a gorgeous roll of wallpaper to decorate a wedding. Any takers? Email me!

Like Us to Support JDRF!

Last year the Wishahmon crew planned the Rays of Hope Fundraiser Concert for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Our efforts raised over $5500.00 in hopes of finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes. This year the crew is helping JDRF with their annual fundraiser, Hope Gala - Sky's the Limit.

To help even more, we are turning to you for support! For every "like" on our Wishahmon page from now until November 30, 2012, we will donate 25 cents to JDRF. (Up to a donation of $500.00) Together we can raise awareness!

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it.

Living with T1D is a constant challenge. People with the disease must carefully balance insulin doses (either by injections multiple times a day or continuous infusion through a pump) with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night. They must also test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood six or more times a day. Despite this constant attention, people with T1D still run the risk of dangerous high or low blood sugar levels, both of which can be life threatening. People with T1D overcome these challenges on a daily basis. (Source: JDRF Fact Sheet

Weddings + Macarons = Love

New blog series - we will be talking primarily about food, drinks, and desserts on Tuesday. Just remember this series as Tasty Tuesday. (Sorry, will come up with a better name soon!)

I had my first macaron last year in Thailand (of all places) when my aunt and I walked by a fancy hotel that was having an all you can eat afternoon tea. My aunt saw in the corner of her eye that they had macarons and immediately said: "We are having afternoon tea."

My aunt had two of every single favor of macarons that afternoon. (Sorry Auntie J!) I didn't know what the fuss was about so I loaded up on a bunch of desserts before trying a macaron. Epic fail. By the time I had the macaron, I felt bad that I didn't have any more space in my stomach for more.

After my experience, I now understand why brides MUST have macarons that their weddings! I am a believer now! In addition to having them as a dessert or wedding cake replacement, here are some other ideas that I found.

Long Rectangular Reception Tables

I was totally flattered when I met a bride that pulled inspiration from my blog  to design her wedding. (Honestly still very surprised that people other than my family read my blog!) I thought everything she said was familiar but I didn't really realize it until she said: "I got these ideas from your blog!"

She had pulled together a lot of the decor elements beautifully and had a nack for DIY. (I totally want her on my team after her wedding!) The only thing she struggled with was how to put her guest tables together. All the weddings she attended had round tables of eight guests. Her venue has long rectangular tables and she was at a lost as to how she can fill the tables with centerpieces. She couldn't quite figure it out but felt one centerpiece per 12 foot table is a little odd.

I gave her some ideas including using several smaller centerpieces at different heights and a long table runner to pull all the centerpieces together for a cohesive look. Knowing that she is very visual and now knowing she reads my blog, I dedicate the inspirations in this blog post to her. Good luck K!

Keeping Your Wedding Guests Comfortable

You invited your wedding guests because you want them to share your special day with you. It is a huge honor to be invited as a guest, but also a huge honor if your guest attends. With issues of unpredictable weather and those too-cute-but-painful heels, your guests will appreciate it when you have considered their comfort on your big day. (I mean, in addition to all that is on your plate, they will see you as an angel!) Here are some ways of showing your guests that you care!
