Bridal Skincare Tip: DIY Acne Scar Reducing Mask

Another thing that freaks my friends out about me is my bravery when it comes to trying DIY versions of skincare products on my skin. What they should know by now is I don't just put anything on my skin and likely the DIY mask I am telling them about is not the first one I tried. Also, I do research prior to consider the source.

I started following and watching Bubzbeauty about a year ago. At the time, I was also struggling with some acne scars on my face. Over the years, I find my skin is taking longer to heal and my existing products was just not cutting it anymore. Lindy (Bubz) is a lot younger than me and her skin is obviously different but I thought I'd give this mask a try. The products are all natural and the mask is easy to use. I use this mask about two times a week. The results are amazing!

Bridal Skincare Tip: Ingrid Millet Extreme Anti-Aging Cream

I know I can't stop the clock on getting older but I can definitely try my best to slow down the clock on looking older. I started using anti-aging products in my mid-twenties. Why so early you may ask? I was inspired by my friend, Jenny who told me she has been using eye cream since she was 16 years old. We are the same age but our eyes look drastically different. Her eyes make her look like she is still 16 years old.

Since I am always hiding behind a thick pair of glasses, I decided to focus on the rest of my face first. I am born with a round-ish face and sagging cheeks. Anti-aging creams and firming masks are a must in my daily, weekly, monthly routine.

I have been using the Ingrid Millet Extreme Anti-Aging Cream for some time now. While I can't vouch on whether it has made me look younger, I don't feel like I look a LOT older. This product is hard to come by in Canada and is on the pricier end of products. If you too would like to start using some preventive products, it is never too late or too early.

Bridal Skincare Tip: Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

With the weird weather we are having in Calgary, hotter temperatures outside (sometimes), being active outside more, it really wreaks havoc on our skin! This is the best time to ensure your skin is clean after a day of playing outside or running around. As you should already know, your skin repairs itself at night, If you don't clean your skin fully before applying all the remedies, it is really not effective, waste of time and money, and can do more harm (as it may clog up your pores even more.)

Obviously you need to wash off your makeup and cleanse your skin well. One thing that I like to do weekly if I remember is to use a deep pore cleansing masque. I always remember when I have breakouts. Word of caution, this masque is thick and can be drying. Often I don't apply the masque to my enter face. Only the problem areas at the time or my T-zone. No one says you have to use one product all over your face. Just use it where it is needed.

Remember it is all fun and games until you breakout the next morning. Keep your skin clean always!

Bridal Skincare Tip: Kiehl's Blue Herbal Spot Treatment

This spot treatment is one of the items I would never leave on a trip without. I use this (or another fave product) almost daily but only at night. I don't like to be in the sun with this on. I don't have a good reason for this but I personally don't like to be in the sun when I use a product with salicylic acid. A little bit on the pricey side at $19 for 15ml. Which is why I definitely just use it on the "spots" that need it.

This product is not a fast acting treatment. If you have a huge zit right the day before your wedding, this is not going to help that much. It is more for long term (and slow healing) use. One great thing about this treatment is it doesn't leave you huge scars. I feels like it heals deep down. (Of course, I have no scientific evidence to back this claim up.)

Bridal Skincare Tip: SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

When this product first came out I wanted it right away but I knew it was for the wrong reasons. I wanted this product because my favorite Chinese singer, Sammi Cheng did a commercial for the product. When I learned of the price, that was another factor for not getting it right away. (There was no way I could pay over a $100 for a toner as a university student. Back then, I didn't know the difference between toner and essence. There is a difference!)

Years later, I heard more and more great things about this product from friends and the occasional bad review. Last November in Vegas, I was buying a new SK-II product from a very pushy sales lady. She insisted that I purchase the Facial Treatment Essence in addition to what I was already buying. She met her match as I was not going to budge. She ended up giving me a large sample of the Facial Treatment Essence. I tried it out and I am in love. My skin feels instantly smoother and hydrated.

I use this product after fully cleansing my skin, no toner, then add a serum, and maybe a moisturizer. Obviously this product is available in the States (Saks Fifth Avenue, no less) but I plan on getting my friends from Hong Kong to pick me up a full sized bottle from duty free the next time they come visit. I'm not sure of the availability in Canada but a quick search indicates you can buy it online at Sephora for $163.00 (5 oz.).

If you have tried this product, please let me know what you think of it too!!

Bridal Skincare Tip: Cure Aqua Gel

I learned of this product in a youtube product review video. I was a little intrigued and creep-ed out. The person reviewing the product explained you slather Aqua Gel on your face and then rub it. Your dead skin cells will then start to rub off into little lumps. I jumped immediately onto Ebay and found this product for $50 and it ships from Tokyo. (Feels more legit!) I thought it was worth a try given that tons of Japanese girls swear by this product and it is Japan's best selling exfoliator.

I use this product about once a week when my skin is fairly clear and dull looking. It is a very gentle exfoliator. When using it, you will think it is doing nothing (and you got ripped off) but your skin feels super soft afterwards and you will still be glowing the next day!

I'm not sure if this product is available in Canada, but certainly available through Ebay and Amazon.

Bridal Skincare Tip: Kiehl's Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser

I was going to blog about the cleanser that I use with my Clarisonic but after my blog post of last week, one of my blog readers told me she is really excited about this new blog series because she is currently battling with some major breakout. Thought I would share this post first! Good luck R and thanks for reading!!

This is my hard core cleanser I use when I have lots of breakouts due to that time of the month or lack of sleep. It is more on the drying side but I think it is a good thing cause it dries out the acne too. I follow this up with an acne treatment (will discuss in other blog posts cause obviously I don't just use one.) Also, a light weight oil free lotion.

If your big day is coming up, this might be worth a try. Of course, don't over use it for the first time and don't use it with your Clarisonic for the first time. It might be too over-drying if you use both awesome products at once.

Cheers to great skin!

Bridal Skincare Tip: Clarisonic

Obviously the Clarisonic is a cult favorite but there is a reason for it. My pink Clarisonic Mia was a gift to me from my BFF. She gave it to me not because my skin needed work but she knew I would really enjoy it. (And I do.)

Most experts say you shouldn't exfoliate your skin more than once or twice a week because it leads to overdrying the skin. I personally exfoliate more than that during the week, (not necessarily with my Mia.) The reason is because I have thick combination skin. (Do what works for your skin.) Without regular exfoliation, I find my skin to be quite dull and grey and prone to blackheads. I recently started to use my Mia in the shower with a cleanser after I've been in my shower for at least five minutes. I like to wait until all my pores are opened up before I start buffing away. Works like a charm every time.

The Clarisonic is available on their website and at Sephora.

Clarisonic Mia. 1-2 times a week keeps my skin from getting congested without irritating it.

New Series: Bridal Skincare Tips

This new blog series was inspired by L from our last Vegas trip. As you know, when you go on a trip with someone, all secrets are exposed. The first morning in Vegas, we were both putting on makeup when L said to me "THAT is all you put on your face?" I said "What?! Do I need more? Where? What do you see?" As it turns out L was surprised I only put on lotion and concealer under my eyes when I go out. No foundation, powder, or BB cream. Only the real (skin) deal.

I am not a beauty expert but a true skincare beauty junkie. When friends ask me what cleanser or lotion I use, I ask them "You mean one product?" I have at least 5 cleansers and least 7 lotions that I use on rotation year round. I have always been a beauty junkie after my mom told me if I have a good canvas (skin) I don't need a lot of paint (makeup). It makes more sense when said in Chinese.

Often my brides freak out before their wedding about bumps on their skins or a huge zit and say they wish they had good skin like me. I tell them that I wasn't born with good skin, I work at it. Brides too should work on their skin as early as possible. There isn't a magical product that will bless you with perfect skin on your wedding day a week before. (If there is, please let me know!!)

Through this series, I hope to share the skincare products that work for me. I will share with you when and why I use a specific product and hope it works out for you too. Most products should be available in North America, some from Asia, and some online.  (I am not paid for any of my reviews. Just sharing tips girlfriend to girlfriend.)

Cheers to great skin!
