Wedding invitations are important. They provide your guests with all the details to your wedding and it is the first glimpse of your wedding theme. Your wedding invitations also sets the formality of the wedding. If your guests receive a formal invitation, they know they are attending a formal event and not a backyard bar b que wedding. Try to stay consistent with your tone, color, and theme.
If you are having a formal wedding and need help with writing up your wedding invitation, Martha can help! General rules for formal invitations are: 1) Host (individuals paying for the wedding) gets their names placed first on the wedding; 2) No capital letters as this implies yelling; 3) No numericals, spell out all the numbers used even on the wedding date; 4) No asking for presents or mention of a wedding registry. Guests are not and should not be expected to bring a present to your wedding. If they do, bonus for you. Their presence is your wedding present.
There are several options for wedding invitations:
1) DIY - If you or your friend is crafty or good with graphic design, you can design your wedding invitations yourself and just have it printed at your local printing company. Easy!
2) Local Resources - In Calgary, you can check out Social Page and Plush Invitations. Their invitations are catered to your needs and handmade!
3) Online Resources - There are several online resources that I have used before and can vouch for the quality. Two of them are: Weddingstar and Vistaprint.
Carisa and Richard asked me about save-the-date cards prior to asking about their wedding invitations. I suggested we design the wedding invitations first since it is more important, after that, we can design matching save-the-date cards. During the process of designing the invitations, Carisa and Richard told their out of town friends and family their wedding date and asked for their attendance. Scraping the save the date cards, we are now ahead of the game! With every wedding, I learn something too. Carisa introduced me to the cutest wedding invitation online shop - Wedding paper divas. They even sent free samples in the designs they chose! If you are invited to their wedding, keep your eye out for really cute wedding invitations in your mail!
